Gabriel is not Michael – it’s simple really @ken4london

It’s a simple choice between good and evil – I don’t think it’s been so clear since the great struggle between Churchill and Hitler… The people that don’t vote for me will be weighed in the balance, come Judgement Day. The Archangel Gabriel will say, ‘You didn’t vote for Ken Livingstone in 2012. Oh dear, burn forever. Your skin flayed for all eternity.’… I’ll come round with a serious pitch nearer the time.

Ken Livingstone in Total Politics.

Dear me, it seems that Mr Livingstone believes himself to be something approaching The Messiah. Unfortunately, he has somewhat muddled up his archangels as well. Perhaps had he not given up his Christian beliefs at the age of eleven this would have not happened. Just for reference, see the below:

St Gabriel the Archangel

St Gabriel ‘was sent to announce the mystery of the Incarnation of the Word of God.’ (Roman Martyrology)

St Michael the Archangel

St Michael is the angel of death, carrying the souls of all the deceased to heaven, where they are weighed in his perfectly balanced scales. At the hour of death, St Michael descends and gives each soul the chance to redeem itself before passing, thus consternating the devil and his minions. St Michael is the special patron of the Chosen People in the Old Testament and is guardian of the Church; it was thus not unusual for the angel to be revered by the military orders of knights during the Middle Ages. Lastly, he is the supreme enemy of Satan and the fallen angels. (cf. Wikipedia)

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.
